[Animal Modeling] - Application of Gene Modified Animal Models to Study the Progress of Depression

Depression is a complex mental disease with polygene inheritance. Its incidence rate is high, and the serious cases are accompanied by suicide. In recent years, people's understanding of the clinical manifestations and pathogenesis of depression has been continuously improving. With the continuous advancement of gene editing technology, the efficiency of constructing gene knockout animals has greatly improved and the cost has also decreased. Therefore, more and more gene knockout animals are being applied in basic research and drug development of depression, providing powerful tools for revealing the pathogenesis of depression.

This article reviews the research progress in the application of gene knockout mouse models to study the roles and mechanisms of candidate pathogenic genes for depression in recent years.
