[Animal Modeling] - Thyroidectomy Method for Kidney Yang Deficiency Animal Model

  (1) Reproduction method: Adult rats were anesthetized, with skin incision, muscle dissection, bilateral thyroid separation and excision, and muscle and skin suturing. Observe the general condition of rats, test left ventricular function and thyroid function, euthanize animals, and take hearts and lungs for histopathological examination.

  (2) Model characteristics: Animal fur is loose, movements are slow, curled up aimlessly, and some animals have loose stools; The maximum rate of increase and decrease in left ventricular pressure (± dp/dt max) shows a decreasing trend; The total T3 and T4 values significantly decreased, while TSH showed an upward trend; Individual animals have myocardial fiber granule degeneration, and most animals have congestion in the alveolar wall capillaries; Mild swelling of muscle fibers.

  (3) Comparative medicine shows that hypothyroidism is one of the main pathologies of kidney yang deficiency syndrome. The pathological changes in total and secondary resection have the same trend and different amplitudes, with thyroid failure as the main lesion, and the degree is greater than that in the drug hypothyroidism model. However, thyroidectomy can also cause irreversible pathological damage, especially total resection, which is not conducive to drug reversal and pharmaceutical research, and is inconsistent with the actual situation of clinical kidney yang deficiency syndrome.
