[Animal Modeling - Pharmacodynamic Evaluation]- Guinea Pig Ulcerative Colitis

  1. Animal modeling materials: guinea pigs, regardless of gender, weighing around 550g; Medications: carrageenan, sucrose.

  2. Modeling method: Put 20-50g/L of degraded carrageenan solution into a bottle for guinea pigs to drink, record the amount of water the guinea pigs drink, and add sucrose at a rate of 50g/L to increase palatability.

  3. Modeling principle: Carrageenan and its low concentration acid hydrolysis products can cause ulcerative colitis in animals.

  4. Changes after modeling: Within 10 days after modeling, loose stools may appear, followed by occult blood or bloody stools, weight loss, and colon damage in all animals at 3-4 weeks. By 5-6 weeks, the lesions tend to improve, indicating ulcers in different healing stages.

  5. Precautions: The ulcerative effect of carrageenan is related to the dosage and administration time. Adding ordinary Bacteroides has an effect on the development of typical ulcers.
