[Animal Modeling - Pharmacological Evaluation] - Olive Oil Induced Cerebral Edema Model in Rabbits

  1. Modeling material animal: rabbit; Medication: Anesthetic, olive oil, 2.5% Evans blue saline solution; Equipment: Brain pressure gauge, multi-channel physiology instrument.

  2. Modeling method: After animal anesthesia, the common carotid artery is surgically separated, and the right ventricle is intubated. A brain pressure gauge is connected to measure ventricular pressure, or an amplifier can be connected to monitor intracranial pressure (ICP) with a multi-channel physiology instrument. 1ml/kg of 2.5% Evans blue saline solution is injected into the ear vein, and after the ICP is constant, 0.1ml/kg olive oil is injected into the right common carotid artery.

  3. Modeling principle: Olive oil causes brain edema in animals.

  4. Changes after mold making: After injection, ICP rapidly increased from around 0.93kPa, rose to around 1.18kPa after 40 minutes, rose to 2.94kPa after 70 minutes, and continued to rise for about 3 hours.
