On February 19-20, 2025, the launch and academic exchange conference of the
"Analysis and Utilization of Major Specialized Trait Gene Modules in Forage"
special project of the Life Science Department of the National Natural Science
Foundation of China (hereinafter referred to as the "Forage Project") was held
in Beijing. Academician Zhong Kang, Director of the Life Sciences Department of
the National Natural Science Foundation of China, attended the meeting and
delivered a speech. Wang Puyue, Deputy Director of the Life Sciences Department,
presided over the opening ceremony.
Director Zhong Kang introduced the reform ideas and measures of the
National Natural Science Foundation of China in his speech, pointing out that
establishing a scientific evaluation system requires relying on evaluation
experts to fully utilize their academic appreciation and cultivate a group of
truly "discerning" experts. He emphasized that the forage special project was
established by the Ministry of Life Sciences under the guidance of the Party
Group of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, in response to the
actual needs of China's grass industry development and to implement the national
"Big Food Concept" strategy. The forage special project has clear goal oriented
characteristics, and the project leader responsible for the special task should
always keep in mind and carry out research around the overall scientific goals
of the special project, and produce landmark results. In addition, he also put
forward specific requirements for the project leader of the forage special
project from the perspective of the "five new" characteristics of academic
value, namely exploring new phenomena, revealing new mechanisms, developing new
carriers, applying new technologies, and adopting new methods.
Vice Director Wang Puyue introduced the basic situation of the application
code (C22) for the newly added first level discipline of Grassland Science in
the Department of Life Sciences, and stated that the Department of Life Sciences
will adhere to a humble work attitude and pragmatic work style, fully rely on
experts, and do a good job in the process management of forage special
projects.
Professor Wang Wen from Northwestern Polytechnical University and
researcher Jing Haichun from Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences
were invited to give special reports at the meeting. The project leaders of 41
forage special projects introduced the scientific objectives, research content
and plans, existing work foundation, and 2025 work plan of their respective
projects. The specially invited guidance expert group evaluated each project
based on the scientific objectives of the forage special project and provided
targeted opinions and suggestions.
Specially invited experts, project leaders, and key personnel from the
forage special project, as well as relevant staff from the Ministry of Life
Sciences, attended the meeting.
