On February 24-25, 2025, the "Oral Medicine Discipline Development"
strategic seminar, hosted by the Medical Science Department of the National
Natural Science Foundation of China and organized by Peking University
Stomatological Hospital, was held in Beijing. Academician Zhang Xuemin, member
of the Party Group and Deputy Director of the National Natural Science
Foundation of China, Hong Wei, Deputy Director of the Medical Science
Department, and Guo Chuantang, President of the Chinese Stomatological
Association, attended the meeting and delivered speeches.
Vice Director Zhang Xuemin pointed out in his speech that oral medicine is
crucial in maintaining overall health, regulating the body's immune system, and
improving quality of life, involving cutting-edge scientific fields such as stem
cells, tissue regeneration, microbiome, genetics, and new materials. At the same
time, the empowerment of digitalization and artificial intelligence technology
has brought innovative applications to oral medicine, promoting the precision
and efficiency of diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. More importantly, the
underlying mechanisms of the association between oral health and systemic
diseases such as tumors still need to be further elucidated to further clarify
the core role of oral medicine in systemic health management. This shows that
dentistry is not only the foundation of overall health, but also an important
driving force for future medical development, and its research results will have
a profound impact on human health.
Professor Deng Xuliang from Peking University and Professor Ye Ling from
Sichuan University served as co chairs of the conference. At the meeting, 24
experts including Zhang Volunteer, academician of Shanghai Jiaotong University,
Wang Cunyu, academician of Peking University, Wang Songling, academician of
South University of Science and Technology, and Zhao Irimin, academician of the
PLA Air Force Military Medical University, were invited to make thematic reports
around four themes: "pathogenesis and prevention strategies of oral craniofacial
dysplasia", "oral craniofacial tissue and organ repair and regeneration", "oral
disease and general health", and "application of digital and artificial
intelligence in stomatology". 37 experts and scholars from domestic universities
and research institutes in the field of dentistry and interdisciplinary fields
actively spoke and conducted in-depth discussions.
Staff members from the Medical Science Department of the National Natural
Science Foundation of China attended the meeting.
