On March 10, 2025, the Information Science Department of the National
Natural Science Foundation of China held a mid-term inspection and exchange
meeting for the 2024 Youth Science Foundation Project (Class A) in Wuhan. The
conference is hosted by the Information Science Department of the National
Natural Science Foundation of China and co organized by Huazhong University of
Science and Technology. Liu Ke, Executive Vice Director of the Information
Science Department of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and
Zhang Yonghui, Vice President of Huazhong University of Science and Technology,
attended the meeting and delivered speeches.
Executive Vice Director Liu Ke stated in his speech that the Youth Science
Foundation Project (Class A) is an important component of the national youth
science and technology talent funding system, playing a crucial role in
cultivating leading talents in basic research. In 2024, the National Natural
Science Foundation of China will begin implementing the graded evaluation and
continued funding of the Youth Science Foundation project (Class A), and
establish a long-term stable funding mechanism for outstanding researchers. He
emphasized that young scientific and technological talents are the backbone of
scientific and technological innovation, and should integrate their personal
scientific research career into the construction of a strong scientific and
technological country, and bravely climb the peak of innovation. This mid-term
inspection and review will focus on the quality of the project research results,
supervise and correct them, guide the relying units and responsible persons to
change the tendency of "heavy application, light implementation", and thus help
the project to be implemented with higher quality.
Vice President Zhang Yonghui thanked the Natural Science Foundation of
China for its trust and support in Huazhong University of Science and Technology
in her speech. He stated that the mid-term inspection work is a guide and
correction for the implementation direction of the project, and hopes to use
this meeting as an opportunity to further promote the integrated development of
higher education, science and technology, and talent.
The review experts carefully reviewed the relevant materials, listened to
the project leader's report and had sufficient communication, and conducted a
graded evaluation of the progress of the mid-term inspection project in
2024.
