Recently, the National Natural Science Foundation of China announced the
project approval of the outstanding research group project in 2025. Professor
Wang Yanjiang from the Department of Neurology, Army Special Medical Center of
the Army Medical University, led by Professor Wang Yanjiang of the National
Natural Science Foundation of China Excellent Research Group Project (Class B)
jointly applied for by Fudan University and Xiamen University, "Analysis of
Complex Mechanisms of Alzheimer's Disease and Innovative Diagnosis and Treatment
Exploration" after meeting review and on-site inspection, it was officially
approved and approved with a funding of 60 million yuan. It is the first
outstanding research group project led by Chongqing.
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a major disease that endangers the health of
the elderly. It has the highest incidence rate. There is currently a lack of
early diagnosis and effective intervention methods. The main reason is that its
mechanism of occurrence is unclear. The project takes the "complex systematic
mechanism hypothesis" of Alzheimer's disease as its idea, and takes the clinical
and community cohort of Alzheimer's disease as its main research objects.
Through the integrated analysis of multiomics, multimodal, and multidimensional
data, it analyzes the complex mechanisms of Alzheimer's disease from a
systematic perspective, screens out early diagnostic marks and intervention
targets, establishes early diagnosis and accurate diagnostic methods, and
develops innovative treatment technologies and drugs targeting cognitive
function improvement. The goal is to make original breakthroughs in key areas
such as the pathogenesis, blood diagnosis and cognitive protection of
Alzheimer's disease, and provide effective solutions to the increasingly severe
Alzheimer's disease challenge.

The project leader Professor Wang Yanjiang, who has been engaged in
Alzheimer's disease research for a long time, has received funding from the
National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation and has been selected as an
outstanding scientist in Chongqing. The backbone of the project includes
Professor Yujintai, a well-known scholar in the field of clinical, basic and
medical engineering research at Fudan University, Professor Zhang Jiayi, the
Institute of Brain Science, Fudan University, Professor Zhang Yunwu and
Professor Wang Xin, the Institute of Neuroscience, Xiamen University, to form an
innovative team with interdisciplinary disciplines. The project team has focused
on Alzheimer's disease for more than 20 years and has made a series of
innovative discoveries in the occurrence mechanism, early diagnosis and
intervention strategies of Alzheimer's disease. The research results have been
published in journals such as Science and Cell. They have successively won the
first prize, second prize, New Cornerstone Science Exploration Award, Chongqing
Natural Science First Prize and Alzheimer Award, laying a solid foundation for
the implementation of this project.
The Army's Specialty Medical Center took the lead in the approval of the
National Natural Science Foundation's Excellent Research Group Project, which is
not only a milestone breakthrough for the school in the field of
neurodegenerative diseases research, but also a concrete practice of the
majority of scientific and technological workers to thoroughly implement the
important instructions of President Xi on "Caring the Peak of Military Medicine"
when he visited the university. In the future, the team will continue to tackle
the key points in Alzheimer's disease mechanism analysis and diagnosis
technology and prevention and treatment strategies, produce more internationally
leading original results, and make contributions to the realization of the
"Healthy China 2030" plan outline goals.
