Objective: To explore the establishment elements and detection indicators of animal models of osteoporosis, and provide reference for the standardization of animal models of osteoporosis.
Method: Retrieve animal experimental literature on osteoporosis collected in the databases of China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang, VIP, and PubMed over the past 10 years, summarize the types of experimental animals, modeling methods, detection indicators, and other elements, and conduct data analysis using Excel and SPSS Modeler 18.0.
A total of 457 eligible literature were included as a result. The primary osteoporosis animal model is mainly induced by surgical removal of ovaries in rats, while the secondary osteoporosis animal model is mainly induced by glucocorticoids. The detection indicators mainly include bone density, serum biochemical indicators related to bone metabolism, bone tissue morphology and pathological observation, bone microstructure, bone biomechanics, etc.
Conclusion: Currently, animal models of osteoporosis mainly rely on ovariectomy in female rats and induction of glucocorticoid drugs, but a unified standard has not yet been established. The osteoporosis model requires a comprehensive assessment of bone density, serum biochemical indicators related to bone metabolism, bone tissue morphology and pathological observation, bone microstructure, and bone biomechanics.
