The National Health Commission issued a document banning these two surgeries!

On July 8, the National Health Commission website issued two important notices:

Notice on the prohibition of the application of "deep cervical lymphatic vessel/node-venous anastomosis" for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease; Notice on the prohibition of the application of "jejunal ileal anastomosis" for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

The notice mentioned that some medical institutions carried out "cervical deep lymphatic vessel/node-venous anastomosis" to treat Alzheimer's disease. In order to further strengthen the clinical application management of medical technology, experts were organized to evaluate the technology. The evaluation believes that the technology is in the early stage of clinical research exploration, the indications and contraindications are not yet clear, and the safety and effectiveness lack high-quality evidence-based medical evidence support.

Another notice mentioned that our commission organized an evaluation of "jejunal ileal anastomosis in the treatment of type 2 diabetes". The evaluation believes that this technology lacks basic theoretical support and high-quality evidence-based medical basis, and the safety and effectiveness of clinical applications are inaccurate.

According to the relevant provisions of the "Regulations on the Clinical Application of Medical Technology" (National Health Commission Order No. 1), it is decided to prohibit the use of "cervical deep lymphatic vessel/node-venous anastomosis" for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, and prohibit the use of "jejunal ileal anastomosis" for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

The interpretation of the prohibition on the application of "deep cervical lymphatic vessel/node-venous anastomosis" in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease is as follows:

  1. What is "deep cervical lymphatic vessel/node-venous anastomosis"

Lymph vessel/node-venous anastomosis is a surgery to anastomize the lymphatic vessel or lymph node with the adjacent vein through microsurgery, which is mainly used to treat refractory lymphedema, etc.; deep jugular lymphatic vessel/node-venous anastomosis is a surgery to anastomize the deep lymphatic vessel or lymph node in the neck with the adjacent vein.

  2. Why is it prohibited to use "cervical deep lymphatic vessel/node-venous anastomosis" for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease

The National Health Commission adheres to the principles of prudence, science and rigorousness. In accordance with the relevant provisions of the "Regulations on the Clinical Application of Medical Technology", it organized the evaluation and demonstration work of "cervical deep lymphatic vessel/node-venous anastomosis" for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, and evaluated the safety and effectiveness of the technology.

Comprehensive evaluation believes that the application of this technology in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease lacks direct evidence from relevant preclinical studies. The technology is in the early stage of exploration of clinical research, and the indications and contraindications are not yet clear. Its safety, effectiveness and economics lack high-quality evidence-based medical evidence and health economic evidence.

  3. How should localities implement it

Provincial health and health administrative departments must fulfill their management responsibilities for the clinical application of medical technology, supervise and guide health and health administrative departments at all levels in their jurisdiction, and strengthen daily supervision of the clinical application of medical technology in medical institutions. Local health administrative departments at all levels shall organize a screening of the clinical application of "cervical deep lymphatic vessel/node-venous anastomosis" in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease in accordance with the relevant notice requirements, and require medical institutions to immediately stop the clinical application of this technology and continue to strengthen supervision. Guide medical institutions with conditions to carry out clinical research scientifically and in a standardized manner according to relevant requirements. At the same time, strengthen health education and popular science to enhance the health awareness of the whole people.

Interpretation on the prohibition of the application of "jejunal ileal anastomosis" in the treatment of type 2 diabetes:

  1. What is "jejunal ileal anastomosis"

Jejunal ileal anastomosis is a surgery to anastomize the jejunum with the ileum. It is mainly used for intestinal obstruction, tumor resection and reconstruction or congenital malformation repair, etc., to restore the continuity of the intestine through anastomosis.

  2. Why is it prohibited to use "jejunal ileal anastomosis" in the treatment of type 2 diabetes

The National Health Commission adheres to the principles of prudence, science and rigorousness. In accordance with the relevant provisions of the "Regulations on the Clinical Application of Medical Technology", it organized the evaluation and demonstration work of "jejunal ileal anastomosis" for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, and evaluated the safety and effectiveness of the technology.

Comprehensive evaluation believes that the safety and effectiveness of this technology for diabetes treatment are inaccurate. The implementation of this technology alone may lead to serious complications such as liver failure and malnutrition; this technology was used in the field of weight loss and metabolism, and has also been clinically eliminated due to the high incidence of serious complications.

Local health administrative departments at all levels shall organize an investigation into the clinical application of "jejunal ileal anastomosis" in the treatment of type 2 diabetes in accordance with relevant notices and requirements, and require medical institutions to immediately stop the clinical application of this technology and continue to strengthen supervision. At the same time, strengthen health education and popular science to enhance the health awareness of the whole people.
